Safeguarding at The Malling School

SafeguardingOur school feels it is of the utmost importance to have good systems for protecting children and safeguarding their welfare, throughout all the activities which the school undertakes.  This means that staff must be alert to possible concerns about every pupil, and to report these in a proper fashion.  The school has a safeguarding and child protection policy: parents may request a copy of this.

It is important for parents/carers  to be aware that:

  • Staff in the school have a duty to report concerns about a child, whether this means the child may be in need of additional support or help of some kind or whether it is thought that a child may have been abused or be at risk of abuse.
  • We believe every child should be valued, safe and happy. We want to make sure that our children know this and are empowered to tell us if they are suffering harm.
  • We undertake to exercise proper care in the appointment and selection of all those who will work with children.

We are committed to:

  • Following the requirements for UK legislation in relation to safeguarding children and good practice recommendations.
  • Ensuring that staff adhere to the agreed procedures of our safeguarding policy.
  • Keeping up to date with national and local developments relating to safeguarding.
  • Following any local authority guidelines in relation to safeguarding children
  • Supporting the Designated Person for Child Protection (DPCP) in their work and in any action they may need to take in order to protect children
  • Supporting parents and families
  • Nurturing, protecting and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Supporting, resourcing, training, monitoring and providing supervision to all those who undertake this work.
  • Supporting all in the school affected by abuse.

We recognise:

  • Children’s Social Services has lead responsibility for investigating all allegations or suspicions of abuse where there are concerns about a child.
  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

If you have any Safeguarding concerns for a child in our school, then contact our Designated Person for Child Protection directly.
