Governor Messages

Dear all

The role of governors in schools is becoming increasingly important and in January of this year a new governing body was formed to exclusively look after The Malling School. Many of the governors are new and we have been able to successfully recruit a team who have a wide range of skills but with the single common objective of maintaining and improving
all aspects of school life.

The role of the governing board is a strategic one with three key functions:

  •  Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent;
  •  Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  •  Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

Mike_Perry_WebThe new governing body has started its work with vigour and there has already been a significant number of monitoring visits covering subjects as wide ranging as safeguarding, teaching and learning, financial monitoring and examination progress.

We have been very pleased with what we have seen at the school but have and will continue to rigorously hold the school to account, to ensure that the school progresses and that standards continually improve.

Financial budgets for the 2017/18 academic year are currently being prepared for approval by the governing body. The school has considerable freedom as to how it spends its budget and good historical financial management has meant that The Malling School is much better placed financially than many other schools across the country. This will allow us to wisely allocate funds where they can best be used to improve standards within the school, for the benefit of all pupils.

It is important that the governors stay in touch with parents and therefore we will be making regular contributions to the school newsletter. In the meantime, information about governors and minutes of meetings can be accessed on the school website.
