Poetry Around the World

This term you will learning about poetry from around the world. You will explore the idea of culture and its importance. Also, you will start to understand how a poet’s identity influences their writing and how they use structure for effect. You will also explore the ways in which poets present ideas about prejudice. You are going to be completing poem-based activities which assess your skills in analysing the writer’s methods and their effects on the reader. These skills are going to help you in year 9. Have fun and your teachers will look forward to seeing your completed work.

Term 5

This term you are going to be improving your creative writing. During your three hours of English per week you should:

  1. Complete three lessons in your booklet (per week)
  2. Use your term 5 knowledge organiser to learn and revisit key concepts and vocabulary. Make sure that you are testing yourself regularly.
  3. Use your knowledge organisers from earlier in the year to revise key concepts and vocabulary. It is important that you do not forget what you have already learnt.

READING- You should be aiming for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes of reading per day. Mrs Sherry has uploaded a number of ways that you can access texts if you are running low at home.

Reading is one of the most important things you can do whilst you are at home. It will:

  1. Help you to relax and reduce anxiety
  2. Widen your vocabulary
  3. Help with the accuracy of your writing
  4. Broaden your imagination
  5. Keep you entertained!
