Year 13 Health & Social Care

Term 5

I hope you are all keeping well. I haven’t heard from any of you that you are struggling so I will assume that the work is going ok, if this is not the case please let me know and I will do my best to help. Please could I ask you to share your documents with me so that I can see how you are getting on. I am not sure what will be happening with your coursework but there is still a possibility that Miss Barnes and I will have to send some or all of it in for moderation. With this in mind we need to continue working as hard as we can.

We are now moving on to learning aim D, you will be pleased to know that this is the final learning aim for this unit. Had we still been at school I would have set the deadline for this to be completed by Friday 1st May to allow you to concentrate on your exams. As this is not the case I will move the deadline back to 15th May which should give you plenty of time. If you do not think this is achievable please let me know as I am happy to negotiate a suitable deadline.

This learning aim requires you to cover the following criteria:

14/ D.D3

Justify the recommendations in the plan in relation to the needs of the service user and advantages and disadvantages of treatment options.

14/D.M4

Plan treatment to meet the needs of a selected service user with a physiological disorder, reviewing as appropriate to improve outcomes.

14/D.P5

Assess care needs of a selected service user with a physiological disorder.

14/D.P6

Plan treatment to meet the needs of a selected service user with a physiological disorder

14/D.P7

Explain how the plan would improve the health and wellbeing of a selected service user.

To achieve this you need to produce a treatment plan to meet the needs of an individual with one of your selected disorders. The individual can be a family member, friend, or someone in the media (no one will know that you don’t have a friend or family member with this disorder if you want to make it up!). All personal details must be changed to maintain confidentiality.

The plan must include:

  • A justification of the recommendations you have made in your plan and the advantages and disadvantages of all treatment options included
  • A review of any areas of the plan which will improve the options for the user of the services
  • An assessment of the care needs of an individual with the disorder
  • An explanation of how the plan would improve the health and wellbeing of an individual with the disorder

To break this down…

Introduction

  • Introduce the patient and the disorder you will be focusing on. Remember you must maintain confidentiality so no names, give them a nickname eg patient 1 .
  • Discuss primary, secondary and tertiary care giving examples of what carers and care settings might be relevant to someone with the condition you are focusing on.
  • You then need to focus on your individual discussing their needs and how they would be met by each of the carers or care settings at the primary, secondary and tertiary Level.
  • A short section on validity and reliability. Explain what they are and link that to the information that would be given to your patient.

Treatment Plan

  • Individuals basic information
  • Aims of the treatment
  • Information on the diagnosis
  • Information on the primary, secondary and tertiary care and any other providers such as charities/counsellors etc.
  • Treatment Plan (this can be written retrospectively or could be a plan given at the start of the treatment)
  • Treatment Schedule (again this can be past or future but ensure your dates match how you have written the treatment plan)
  • Symptoms and side effects of the treatment

Explain how the plan would improve health and well being

  • In this section you must consider how the plan will impact on the individual in terms of the condition you are focusing on.
  • You should also consider the intellectual, social and emotional aspect of the patients wellbeing and how the plan meets these.

Reviewing treatment plan to improve outcomes

  • In this section you should discuss when and how the treatment plan should be reviewed
  • This could be a scheduled review or might be due to data, test results, patient feedback etc.
  • Consider what changes were made to the original plan and why?
  • How did these changes benefit the patient?

Justify the recommendations in the plan in relation to the needs of the service user and advantages and disadvantages of treatment options

  • Starting with diagnosis and moving through the treatment plan you need to discuss the recommendations given to the patient
  • What are the benefits of each recommendation?
  • Are there any drawbacks to the test/treatment/support?
  • Consider physical, emotional, intellectual, social wellbeing
  • Given the advantages and drawback, in your opinion were the correct recommendations made to the patient?

I know that might seem a little overwhelming but just take each section at a time and use the example to guide you. Please be careful not to plagiarise from the example, this must be your own work. You can find plenty of information about treating your disorders online, particularly from the NHS online and support charities and organisations. If you struggle for information please let me know which disorder you have chosen and I will send you some links.

Heath & Social Care Home Learning Page Monday 23rd March - 16th April

Year 13

You will need to continue working on your work for Unit 5 and also Unit 14. Unit 5 is the unit that you work on with Miss Barnes and Unit 14 is the unit that you work on with Miss Baker.

Unit 5

You should be working on section D from the text book. This needs to be written into your own words and then related to our case studies. You have all been emailed the example that we are working from.

Please make sure that everything is in your own words and those bits that you have taken more heavily from the text book need to be supported with examples of your own to show your understanding.

Unit 14

You need to be working through task c. Again you have had examples of this unit sent through to you by Miss Baker. Please make sure that the work is in your own words and supported by your own explanations and examples.

If you need any support or guidance please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards
Miss C. Barnes
