Students are recognised within the school for outstanding
achievements through prize-giving.
Teachers
also
actively look for opportunities for
talented individuals to gain outside recognition as well and
students are often encouraged to get involved in science,
sports and even cookery competitions – achieving
considerable
success along the way.
Students from The Malling School go on to take up a variety
of careers, either through university progression or with
more vocational further studies –
and
many have
successfully set up their own businesses.
Career choices include teachers, actors,
sportsmen and women,
bankers and
members of the civil service.
Our
student guidance service also provides
excellent
career choice support to help broaden options.
Former student, Matthew Hooper, is now forging a
successful career in the merchant navy,
navigating ships
through the busy Dover to Calais route.
He
says he always found
the teachers
at The Malling School
very supportive.
Suzanne Bicheno, who is
now a successful training manager in the NHS, says she had
opportunities to get involved in more than just academic
studies. “I
just loved it here and loved learning, but was also involved
in the School Council and
co-wrote the school’s anti-bullying policy.”
Academic achievement remains important.
We are
pleased to
have
seen
a
substantial and continued
increase in the number of students
gaining 5 GCSEs at
grades A* to C
over the past 5 years.
As part of the local WHAM consortium of
school sixth forms, we are able to offer our 16+ students
the widest possible choice of both academic and vocational subjects for further study.
