Discipline and behaviour
are both very important at The Malling School.
As a school we are determined that every child
receives the best education possible and reaches his/her
potential, leaving school well-prepared for the future.
To support this, we have a policy of dealing swiftly and
directly with any lapses in behaviour that could disrupt
other students’ performance in any way.
We first ensure the student involved is made aware of
his or her actions and the consequences, and then suitable
punishments are issued if the behaviour persists.
The school has a dedicated student guidance unit with staff
to ensure these matters can be dealt with sympathetically
yet effectively, and will not hesitate to escalate
persistent transgressions into a fixed term exclusion, a
Governors’ interview where students are warned of permanent
exclusion, and finally, permanent exclusion.
While this is not common, it provides a firm framework for
the students and reassurance to the vast majority who want
to learn and progress.
The most recent Ofsted report has praised the
school’s approach to discipline, saying...
“Personal development
programmes, including citizenship, are effective in
improving students’ low self-esteem and lack of confidence
on entry, and promoting responsible attitudes.”
And ...
“Students feel safe and value being able to turn to the
teachers for help. They say bullying is rare and dealt with
effectively.”
