Miss Harris decided to send Lukas’ song into Blue Peter, and I am really pleased that they recognised the hard work Lukas had put into his song and the message behind it and awarded him a Blue Peter badge.

In Key Stage 4, our students have demonstrated remarkable resilience, maintaining the high standards set by last year's record-breaking performance.

Notable achievements include:

• Brooke Urbanowicz: 2 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s, and 3 grade 7s
• Julius Ovsepian: 1 grade 9, 4 grade 8s, 3 grade 7s, and 2 grade 6s

We commend the dedication of all our students, many of whom will continue their educational journey in our Sixth Form, pursuing the International Baccalaureate Programme or bespoke Level 2 curriculum.

In Key Stage 5, our Sixth Form has delivered outstanding results, with students securing places at prestigious universities, including Russell Group institutions such as Southampton, Surrey, and Bath. Key highlights include:

• Taryn Wallis: Achieved grades equivalent to two A*s and one A, planning a gap year before an apprenticeship.
• Holly Boozer: Attending the University of Bath to study Business with equivalent grades of two A*s and one A.
• Paris Clapp: Studying Computing with grades equivalent to two As and two Bs.
• Natalie Penney: Pursuing Politics and International Relations at the University of Bath.

We also celebrate students taking alternative pathways, including Jess Ritchie with the Metropolitan Police and Sam Clarke with a Degree Apprenticeship at BAE Systems. These achievements reflect the hard work of our students and the unwavering support from their families and our dedicated staff. We are excited to continue nurturing the talents of our students as they embark on their future endeavours.

On Sunday, we attended the Memorial Service for Admiral Charles Lucas, the first Royal Navy recipient of the Victoria Cross, at St Lawrence's Church in Mereworth (see 1st and 2nd photos). Our cadets performed exceptionally, with Cadet First Class Jack Brook’s Bosun’s Call piping being spot on.

Special commendations to Ordinary Cadet Julia Fedina and Cadet First Class Maya Severn for their dedication in attending both events.

We welcome any adults interested in taking up a new hobby this September to get in touch. Exciting roles, including positions on the Unit Management Team, are available. Flexible volunteering options are offered. Please contact me with any questions.

I am delighted to announce that the new Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Cllr Steve Hammond, has requested a Mayor's Cadet. This prestigious role will involve accompanying him on various official functions throughout his Mayoral year. I am proud to announce that Able Cadet Daisy Cole has been selected for this honor, representing not just our Unit but also the school. Please join me in congratulating her.

Furthermore, starting in September, we have received permission from the Corps and the School to establish a Junior Section for cadets aged 9 or 10 to 11. This will include students from our feeder schools and Year 7 students aged 11. Consequently, we will no longer have a Pre-Cadet Club. This change will aid in the transition of students wishing to join TMS and secure the future of our Sea Cadet Unit. We will need additional instructors, so any adults interested in working with younger cadets, please contact me.

Additionally, to comply with charity regulations upon commissioning, we need Trustees for the Unit Management Committee, especially a Chairman/Vice Chairman and a Secretary. These roles require minimal time commitment and any special skills you may offer would be invaluable. Please let me know if you are interested.

Following the success of our webinar in term 2 and listening to the feedback from this, The Education People’s Engagement Officer Team are holding an online parent webinar focusing on Apprenticeships.

The aim of the webinar is to give an overview of apprenticeships, dispel some myths with the opportunity to ask some questions. The target audience is year 11 students/parents/carers although other age groups and professionals may also benefit and are welcome to join.

In term 5 all year 7 students will begin a unit of work about the instruments of the orchestra, and it is hoped through this, and with the assembly, students will be encouraged to consider taking up a musical instrument and having lessons in school.

We currently offer lessons on Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Cornet, Trumpet, Drum Kit, Guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), Ukulele, Mandolin, Piano and Voice. Information for these lessons along with videos from the teachers is available in the Student area of the school website, in the Extra Curricular section or from Miss Cox.
