Bach to Future Roadshow

Today students in year 7 had an extended assembly with a visit from the Bach to Future Roadshow from Kent Music School. Lori, Graeme and Colin gave the students a tour through the instruments of the orchestra, demonstrating how the instruments work as well as performing a series of different pieces of music.

The aim of the roadshow was to encourage more students to take up learning a musical instrument. It also fits in with our term 5 music work about The Orchestra.

The instruments the pupils saw were the violin, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone. They also got to hear a French horn made from a hosepipe and funnel, an oboe made from straws and a double bass made from a bucket, broomstick and some string.

At The Malling School we are proud of the range of instruments on offer for students to learn. We currently offer tuition on flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet, trumpet, ukulele, guitar, bass guitar, piano, voice and drum kit. We are always looking to expand this though, so if there is a particular instrument that we don’t currently offer, please let Miss Cox know and if a number of students are interested it might be something we can look to provide.

We are fortunate to have a large number of instruments in school for students to use, which year 7 students will have seen in their lessons. We will continue to promote music lessons with the year 7 students.

Following on from this we are going to be offering free taster lessons in flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet and trumpet for any students that would like to try them. If you would like to sign your son/daughter up for this please ask them to come and see me or contact Miss Cox directly or click here.
