Bach to the Future

On Monday 19th February all Year 7 students had an extended assembly delivered by Kent Music School. Entitled Bach to the Future, the roadshow aimed to give students the opportunity to learn about and hear some orchestral instruments being played. Graham and Colin, who delivered the assembly, brought with them a clarinet, a saxophone, a trumpet and a trombone, which they used to play a variety of popular classical, pop and film music pieces. Students learnt about the instrument family they belong to, how sound is created on each instrument (using a hosepipe, a funnel and a straw!) and were able to hear the range of notes each can play. They also watched videos of the string and percussion families.

In term 5 all year 7 students will begin a unit of work about the instruments of the orchestra, and it is hoped through this, and with the assembly, students will be encouraged to consider taking up a musical instrument and having lessons in school.

We currently offer lessons on Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Cornet, Trumpet, Drum Kit, Guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), Ukulele, Mandolin, Piano and Voice. Information for these lessons along with videos from the teachers is available in the Student area of the school website, in the Extra Curricular section or from Miss Cox.
