Post 18 Options
There are lots of different options available to you when you finish Year 13. The right choice will depend on your interests, skills, career plans and what you want from your next step.
1. Higher Education
Higher education includes university degrees and other higher-level courses, including higher technical qualifications. Courses are available at universities, colleges and specialist institutions.

2. Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships combine paid employment with training and study. They are available at different levels, from entry-level opportunities through to higher and degree apprenticeships.

3. Employment
Going straight into employment can be a good option if you have a clear idea of the type of work you want to do. Look for opportunities that will allow you to develop your skills, gain experience and progress in the future.

4. A Gap Year
A gap year can be a useful option if it is planned with a purpose. You could work, travel, volunteer, gain relevant experience or develop new skills.
Think about what you want to achieve during your gap year and how it could support your longer-term plans.
5. College or Further Training
Further education and training can provide an opportunity to gain new qualifications, develop practical skills or prepare for employment or higher education.
Courses can include vocational and technical qualifications, Access courses, professional training and other programmes.

You do not need to have your whole career planned at 18. If you are unsure about your next step, speak to the Careers Adviser, research your options and consider gaining some work experience or volunteering while you decide.
