Department Vision Statement/ Curriculum Intent

Through teaching Sociology GCSE at The Malling School we aim to create learners who are critical thinkers with the ability to evaluate and analyse their own views as well as the views of others. They will learn about key sociological issues in their own and past societies with an in depth understanding and awareness of social, political, legal and educational changes in society and their implications.

Our pupils will develop a greater sense of tolerance and understanding of class, gender and ethnic diversity and how this affects society and the individuals within it. They are encouraged to use the experiences, evidence and research from different sociological theories to explain individual experiences within society and examine the impact and influence of this.

We encourage our pupils to think independently, open their minds and question social structures and contemporary issues. They will be empowered to open their eyes to the world and explore challenging ideas in a safe and relaxed environment, encouraging them to make excellent academic progress and personal growth.
